CHOOSE YOUR DIVISION
Players will register for one of three divisions:
COMPETITIVE - For experienced players who are here to compete. Conversation during scored games should be kept to a minimum, allowing players to focus on strategy and maintain an efficient pace of play.
SOCIAL - For confident, independent players who enjoy friendly competition while still enjoying conversation, laughter, and connection around the table.
BEGINNER - Designed for newer players who are ready to transition from instruction into independent League play but may occasionally need clarification on a rule.
To participate in the Beginner Division, players should:
Have completed Mahjong 101 and Mahjong 102 or equivalent instruction
Understand and independently complete the Charleston
Be able to select and build a hand
Play independently without the assistance of a teaching guide
Understand basic Mahjong terminology and game play
Require only occasional rules clarification rather than continuous instruction
Please note: League Season is not an instructional class. Continuous strategy, hand-selection, or game-play assistance will not be provided during scored games.
Divisions may be combined or adjusted based on registration to ensure balanced tables and fair competition. Sub registrations will be accepted.
House fill-in registrations will be accepted for individual evenings but will not count towards scoring or participate in League Standings. Contact us for more details.
LEAGUE FORMAT
League play will follow National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules during all officially scored games.
Each player must bring her own 2026 NMJL Card every week.
The first four games of each League Night will be officially scored and count toward season standings.
No blanks may be used during official League play. Tiles will be provided.
Once all four scored games have been completed and scores have been submitted, players are welcome to continue with social play for the remainder of the evening. Alternative cards or house rules may be used during social play only if everyone at the table agrees.
Complete scoring procedures and detailed League rules will be provided to registered players before Opening Night.
TABLE ASSIGNMENTS & ROTATIONS
Part of League Season is playing beyond your regular table.
Table assignments and player rotations will be intentionally arranged throughout the season to encourage fair competition, variety, and community.
Players should expect to play with different League members throughout the seven-week season.
ATTENDANCE, ABSENCES & REFUNDS
Your League registration reserves your seat for the entire seven-week season.
If a player is absent from a League Night:
The player will receive zero points for that evening.
Missed scored games cannot be made up.
Another player may not substitute for the registered player or earn points on her behalf.
Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Because cumulative scores determine season standings, these policies allow us to maintain consistency and fairness for every League member.
AWARDS & RECOGNITION
Season standings will be determined by cumulative points earned during the four officially scored games played each week.
At our Denim & Diamonds Championship Night, we’ll celebrate our inaugural League Season and recognize our season winners!
Awards will include:
First Place Overall
Second Place Overall
Third Place Overall
The Card Conqueror Award
Best Dressed
Additional recognition and surprises may be announced throughout the season.
And you don’t have to be at the top of the leaderboard to go home with something fun—two door prizes will be awarded every League Night!
MORE THAN A LEAGUE
The Mahj-On Society League Season is about so much more than keeping score.
It’s seven weeks of gathering around beautiful Mahjong tables, challenging your game, encouraging one another, sharing laughter, celebrating victories, supporting a local business, meeting women you may never have otherwise met, and creating traditions that bring people together.
Some weeks you’ll win.
Some weeks the tiles may have other plans.
But every week, you’ll have a seat waiting for you at the table.
Whether you leave Championship Night with a first-place prize, a door prize, a stronger Mahjong game, or simply a few wonderful new friendships, our hope is that you’ll leave every Monday night already looking forward to the next.
Welcome to the Inaugural Mahj-On Society League Season.
Seven weeks. One community. And a whole lot of Mahjong.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the tables.
